Jumping rope is a good cardiovascular activity, but it can benefit the heart in other ways, too. Walnut Grove Elementary students demonstrated this in early March by practicing their jump roping skills and learning about heart health in an all-school event coordinated by PE teacher Bill Baird. Twenty students then went on to raise nearly $2,400 for the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart program. Second-grader Julia Mahoney raised the top amount—nearly $1,600.
