Hello parents,

This year is going by fast. It is already past our half way mark. We are working very hard here at Walnut Grove to make the best environment for your child. Currently we are working on increasing our daily attendance. The district has a goal of having a student attendance rate of 90% or more. That amounts to students missing on average 2 days or less of school a month. Research has shown that students that have 90% or better attendance at the primary grades (K-2) are more likely to be at or above grade level by the time they are in 3rd grade.

We are keeping track of student attendance rates by week by grade level on a bulletin board. Students can see that every day as they walk the school hallway near our library. We even have recognition for the class that has the best or perfect attendance the previous week. I know students get sick and we definitely do not want students here that are contagious or can make themselves feel worse. I want to make sure our families know the importance of school attendance, especially as our state testing season gets under way!

Spring is heading our way, hopefully things dry out soon! I am excited for the remaining part of the school year and am so proud of the work our teachers are doing and the growth your students are making in the classroom. Go Eagles!
